"Yes, sir," and there's something natural and playful about that that says that he's said something like that before, and not to a superior officer. (Or perhaps maybe to a superior officer. There's still that odd familiarity about Commander Haurchefant.) It's something to think on as Phillip gets the wine, if nothing else.

Gustavain is still ensconced in the chair when he returns and grins when he sees him returning with the wine, though there's something softer, a little sadder in his expression when Phillip says that freedom looks good on him. It's not exactly as though he disagrees or feels bad about that, more that it's been hard won, every inch a battle, and to have it acknowledged by someone who knew who he was before soothes a part of his heart he didn't even know needed soothing.

"It hasn't always been," he says, voice soft before he smiles, "But I believe I promised you everything?" He looks ready to launch into the story, and the night is still young.
